Oceans Day was first declared in 1992 during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janiero and became known as World Oceans Day. Oceans Day is more than a celebration of the oceans -- it is about learning and doing. Learning how the oceans give us life, and doing our best to restore and maintain their health.

La Journée des océans, qu'on appelle aujourd'hui Journée mondiale des océans, a été proclamée pour la première fois en 1992, à l'occasion du Sommet de la Terre à Rio de Janeiro. La Journée des océans n'est pas qu'une simple célébration des océans -- c'est un événement qui nous rappelle qu'il faut apprendre et agir. Apprendre comment les océans nous donnent la vie, et agir de notre mieux pour rétablir leur santé et la maintenir.
